On March 26, 2026 representatives from research, industry, and politics came together at the 15th VDI-Forum Business & Science in Magdeburg under the theme “Physics Meets Medicine” to discuss a future key question: Can Saxony-Anhalt develop into a “Medical Imaging Valley”? SONOTEC participated in the forum with a presentation.
As leading ultrasound specialist, SONOTEC demonstrated on-site how innovative sensor solutions can be integrated into modern medical technology. In his presentation, Felix Kaczmarek, Product Manager for Medical Technology at SONOTEC, emphasized the significant potential of non-invasive ultrasonic sensors for applications where hygiene, process reliability, and ease of integration are critical. In particular, the use of non-invasive clamp-on sensors in medical devices such as heart-lung and dialysis machines helps make these systems more efficient, safer, and easier to maintain.
Another key focus of the forum was the participation of Prof. Dr. Armin Willingmann, Minister for Science, Energy, Climate Protection and the Environment and Deputy Minister-President of Saxony-Anhalt. In his speech, he underscored the importance of high-performing companies for the region and repeatedly highlighted SONOTEC as a positive example. In addition, the event focused on Saxony-Anhalt’s research landscape in the field of imaging technologies.
The subsequent panel discussion confirmed the relevance of the presented solutions: the prerequisites for establishing a “Medical Imaging Valley” are in place – from excellent research and innovative startups to established technology companies. Discussions with researchers and industry representatives also showed that SONOTEC’s ultrasonic sensors are already being used in a wide range of applications.
The event, organized by the “Verein Deutscher Ingenieure” as part of the “Future Germany 2050” initiative, brought together around 45 representatives from state politics, academia, and Industry.
