On October 8, 2025, the Subcommittee on Air-Coupled Ultrasonic Testing (ACUT) of the German Society for Non-Destructive Testing (DGZfP) held its 16th meeting at the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM) in Berlin.
A total of nine members and one guest attended the meeting.

Technical Exchange and Outlook on New Developments

The agenda included ongoing work on the ISO 25222 standards series, further development of the guideline for air-coupled ultrasonic testing, and future-oriented topics such as the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in non-destructive testing.
Discussions also covered questions about the visibility and dissemination of DGZfP guidelines as well as potential interdisciplinary cooperation with the German Materials Society (DGM).

Active Participation from Industry and Research

Participants—including representatives from research institutions and companies—exchanged insights on ongoing projects, upcoming funding initiatives under the Industrial Collective Research (IGF) program, and possible joint ventures.

Martin Fuchs, development engineer at SONOTEC GmbH and deputy chair of the subcommittee, chaired the meeting and reported on current interfaces between industrial applications and standardization work.

The next meeting of the ACUT subcommittee is scheduled for January 29, 2026, and will be held online.
